Off – Season Wrestling

Did you reach your goals this year? Did you put in enough effort in the off-season? Did you make a solid commitment to the sport and to better yourself? If you answered “no” to any of these questions than you need to follow this page more closely.

This page will have updates to tournaments around the state, off -season open mat sessions and information on the team camp we will plan on attending.  One thing every wrestler needs to understand is that great wrestlers just don’t work hard during the season.  These guys are dedicated all the time.  When the season is finally finished most wrestle on a club team and attend various tournaments and camps throughout the off-season.  They also get into the weight room and lift weights.  Everyone needs to get stronger! If you want to achieve your goals during the season, it will take some off-season dedication to the sport to get better! Most importantly it is all about having fun!

Another key is to go out and try new styles of wrestling besides folkstyle, try what the big boys wrestle in the Olympics; Freestyle and Greco-Roman! Both of those style will vastly improve your wrestling on your feet!

This tournament is using the madison weight system to bracket the tournament. We will bracket wrestlers in 8, 16, or 32 man brackets as appropriate. Groups of 5 or less will be round-robin. So don’t worry about making a particular weight class. Whether you are on glide path for a specific weight class for the Super 32 or for the high school season hydration test and body fat/alpha weight analysis; stick to your plan, weigh in and wrestle without adding any pressure about making a specific weight or worrying about weight allowances. We will be using Pink ribbons on our first place medals as we participate in breast cancer awareness month. Break out the pink singlets, socks, shoes, and headgear!

Preregistering does not cost you anything but saves you money. If you walk in the day of the tournament your entry fee is $30 regardless of organization affiliation. Preregistration will open soon.

Team Camp:

We will attend the 2013 Appalachian State Wrestling Camp.  The camp runs from July 15 – 18 in Boone, NC.  The cost for the camp is $315 ($100 deposit) if we have more than 10 guys sign up and everyone’s deposit is turned in by May 1st.  If we get more than 15 wrestlers and deposits turned in by the specified time the camp is only $310 per wrestler.  You can find out more information about camp by following this link.   So start saving your money up gentlemen, or get a job to help your parents out with costs!

Here are a couple of links to various local wrestling clubs in the Raleigh area:

Capital City Wrestling Club – A wrestling club that practices at Ravenscroft High School and teaches the fundamentals of the sport to kids of all ages.  The club is coached by Joe Cesari (Assistant wrestling coach at Leesville High School).

Arrichion – This club is for the more dedicated wrestler. This club does a lot of off-season wrestling all over the country. They practice at there facilities off of Glenwood avenue across from the Angus Barn.

Wolfpack Wrestling Club – This is a club ran in the NCSU wrestling room by the NCSU coaches.  Here you have the oppurtunity to be taught wrestling by college level coaches.

Here is a link about trying out and wrestling on the NC Dream Team.  This is a great oppurtunity to wrestle with some of the best from the state and get to travel to GA(Militia Duals) and FL(Disney Duals) to compete!  Wrestle-offs for the NC Dream Team are held on April 13th in Greensboro.  They take both an all-star team and a developmental team! This allows kids of all capabilities a chance to compete with other NC kids on a travel team. Click the link to the flyer for more information.

Tournament Calendar

“Summer Wrestling makes Winter Champions” – The key here is get as much mat time as possible, not winning or losing.  The more time you spend on the mat wrestling the better you will become!
