2013-2014 Preseason Wrestling Information
- Preseason conditioning is not mandatory but is strongly suggested to reach team and individual goals.
- We strongly encourage veteran team members to begin extra running, join wrestling club and participate in preseason training including a few tournaments.
- Visit www.capitalcitywrestling.org for Capital City Wrestling Club updates and club information.
- CCWC is a local club that many team members use to improve wrestling during the pre/post and off season time.
- Our High School Pre-season training program begins September 4 and goes through October 31. It is geared to high school and experienced middle school wrestlers with at least 1 year of experience. The program will consist of intense drilling, technique development, and live wrestling, as well as CrossFit strength and conditioning training.
- You must have a current physical on file in order to participate in preseason training. We would advise you to make a copy of your physical form before turning it into the wrestling coaching staff member. See link to athletic participation form found on MHS website.
- All must bring their own lock and take all items with them each day until we are able to use the athletic locker room. Including preseason conditioning.
- All wrestlers will need workout clothes and tennis shoes for preseason conditioning. They will need wrestling shoes and wrestling headgear when the season begins. Headgear may be purchased from the MHS website via online school payment tab or at any sporting goods store or online. Wrestling shoes may be purchased at any sporting goods store or online. We may have opportunities to order shoes from local vendors before the season begins. We will pass along information when it is available.
- All wrestlers must complete a mandatory concussion assessment before they begin practice.
- Hydration testing will be done on October 28th at a time to be determined. We would advise veteran team members to work toward minimum weight class during September and October. You must make minimum weight class hydrated in order to make this weight during the season. This will eliminate an unhealthy weight drop or a poor “pinch.” By making weight this will allow us to focus on training and not weight loss.
- The season officially begins October 30th at 2:45 p.m. in the matroom. Team members will report to designated area (TBD) to begin practice. The PE locker room will be used until the conclusion of the fall sports season.
- If you know of any wrestling candidate that cannot attend the September 5, 2013 meeting encourage them to see Coach Saby or Coach Beller. We are looking for student athletes that want to work, study and compete hard. Word of mouth is still the best way to include all interested candidates.
- Preseason conditioning will from 2:45-3:45 on the following dates:
- September 10, 12, 17, 18, 24, 26, 30.
- October 02, 08, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24.
- We may hold some A.M. practices for returning team members dates to be determined. Time – 6:10-6:45.
