Introducing a new segment here at MillbrookWrestling.com – Senior Spotlight! We’ll use this space to introduce you to our senior wrestlers throughout the season. Tonight we’ll get to know senior Luis Lopez a little bit better! We asked Luis a few questions about himself and how he got involved with the sport…
- How did you originally become involved in wrestling and why? I originally became involved in wrestling mainly because of the Medina brothers who invited me to come try it out. I went to a couple workouts with them during my sophomore year but never joined the team. My Junior year was the year I really wanted to try it out because I looked up videos and the Medina brothers were an important role to this team.
- Who was your childhood hero? My childhood hero is my older brother – I’ve always looked up to him and he’s a perfect example to me and who I should become.
- What is your favorite school class and why? My favorite school class this year is my 3B Marketing Co-op class with Mrs. Robinson. I get to enjoy my peers, learn about marketing and business, then I get to go home for 4th period. I highly recommend this class if you want to enjoy your senior year but you need to have a job to keep a good grade in this class.
- What activities keep you busy off the mat? I would say I’m pretty busy off the mat. I have a part time job at Autobell Carwash, I’m a Boy Scout, attend youth group every Wednesday at my church, and I also attend early morning scripture study at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints every mornings before school from 5:55am to 6:45am.
- Do you have any pre-match rituals? Some of my pre-match rituals are to think about my competition before, what I want to eat after because I’ve been trying to make weight for this match. While I warm up I like to think about what I’m going to do during my match; what kind of takedown I will use, my set up, how I want to pin my opponent, wanting to get my hand raised and just try to use my confidence to go out and have some fun with it.
- What is your proudest moment as a Millbrook wrestler? My proudest moment as a Millbrook wrestler was getting straight into off-season after my junior season and representing my team. I wanted to work hard for a spot on the team for my senior year. I was proud when I beat a 2x State Qualifier during off season; that motivated me to continue putting in effort and work.
- What are your goals for this season? My goals for this year is to contribute as much as I can to this team. I want to have a good winning record, letter in varsity, to just try my best and to have a successful season.
Good luck this season Luis!
